Bravo hasn't yet shared very many details about the Vanderpump Rules reboot, but TMZ has reported that the new cast has been selected from the working SURvers and that now that contracts have been signed, they'll begin filming soon.
TMZ first reported that Vanderpump Rules was filming with a brand new cast in September, two months before the network officially announced that they had fired the original cast and that they were going to be moving forward with a brand new cast.
According to the publication, the film crew was at SUR in September to film the pilot with the new group of SURvers, but that Bravo didn't choose to pick up the reboot until it was announce in November 2024.
Prior to the announcement of the reboot, it was being reported that the film crew was at SUR in order to film a spin-off series of Vanderpump Rules, but Bravo fans know now that's not the case and that the pilot was for the rebooted VPR cast.
Who is in the rebooted Vanderpump Rules cast?
According to the source speaking to TMZ, the full cast of new SURvers has been selected and contracts have been finalized. None of the original cast will be returning to the reboot, which was expected with both Katie Maloney and now Ariana Madix saying that they didn't plan to return to the series even if it wasn't rebooted, and that there will be a total of 14 members in the new cast.
The source says that those 14 new VPR cast members will be a mix of both main cast members and also friends of the SURvers, similar to other Bravo reality TV shows. The reboot, which Lisa Vanderpump previously called "new and refreshing" will be similar to the early days of Vanderpump Rules with split focus on the cast working at Lisa Vanderpump's SUR as well as their personal lives outside of the restaurant.
TMZ's source claims that Vanderpump Rules will begin filming in April. Bravo has yet to share any details about who the SURvers in the new cast are or when the first season of the reboot will air, but it's likely that it will air sometime in early 2026 or possibly later in 2025.
Alex Baskin says that he doesn't consider the new VPR cast a "reboot"
Despite the fact that the new Vanderpump Rules cast has been referred to as a reboot, producer Alex Baskin says that he's not considering it a reboot. This may because of Bravo fans' mixed reactions to the last reboot the network did with The Real Housewives of New York City, but the producer appeared on the Bravo Bravo F'ing Bravo with Kate Chastain podcast to discuss what fans can expect from the new season -- and why he's not calling it a reboot.
"It's getting back to sort of the foundational principles of the show. It's a group of people who really work at the restaurant and are besties, live together, going through a really fun phase of their life together," Alex Baskin shared on the podcast.
The original cast evolved a lot from where the started on VPR and so many of them are now busy with a variety of careers of their own, including releasing a memoir and being a Broadway star, so the fact that Bravo chose to bring in a new cast that is entirely focused on the lives of the SURvers isn't a surprise.
Despite the fact that the new cast has been referred to as a reboot since the news broke, Alex Baskin pushed back against that claim on the podcast. He said, "I don’t really consider it a reboot. I think that’s the word that’s been thrown around. My view is it’s a brand-new group that work at the restaurant, and so it’s a new series that carries on the legacy of the original."
