Apparently Scheana Shay actually DIDN'T unfollow James Kennedy over that selfie

Former Vanderpump Rules star and Masked Singer contestant Scheana Shay is setting the record straight on why she unfollowed James Kennedy -- and it's not because of his selfie with the Tate brothers.

On her podcast, Scheananigans, Scheana Shay talked about the attention she recently garnered for unfollowing her former Vanderpump Rules co-star, James Kennedy. Unfollowing him came shortly after he posed for a selfie with Andrew and Tristan Tate, controversial public figures that James Kennedy went on to claim he was unfamiliar with prior to the selfie, but Scheana Shay say that's not the reason that she hit the unfollow button.

"I did not unfollow James recently because of him posting with the Tate brothers. It was actually coincidental timing," Scheana Shay said in the March 21 episode of her podcast. She went on to explain that the actual reason that she unfollowed him was because she found out that his ex-girlfriend, Ally Lewber, was going to do the same.

""She was like, 'OK, I think it's time. I think I need to unfollow him.' And I was like, 'If you're doing it, I'm doing it. I don't want to follow him anymore because the following looks like I'm supporting him,'" The Masked Singer contestant and Vanderpump Rules OG recalled on her podcast.

The Valley star Zack Whickam recently had some shady words for the Vanderpump Rules stars that were still following James Kennedy up until his selfie with Tristan and Andrew Tate despite his domestic violence arrest and allegations of abuse, so the fact that Scheana Shay is now revealing that she actually didn't have a single reason for choosing to finally unfollow him is interesting.

Although James Kennedy ultimately didn't face any charges for his December 2024 arrest, he and his ex-girlfriend Ally Lewber split following the arrest and James Kennedy's other Vanderpump Rules exes, Rachel (Raquel) Leviss and Kristen Doute, both spoke out about his arrest when it happened.

Rachel Leviss shared a podcast episode in which she discussed their toxic relationship while Kristen Doute shared a short statement of relief that he had "finally" seen consequences for his behavior. Like Zack Whickham, this made many fans question why some VPR alums were continuing to follow James Kennedy, but the questioning only amped up when they chose to unfollow him for his selfie with Tristan and Andrew Tate.

Vanderpump Rules is streaming now on Peacock.
