The future of Wayne Brady's Freeform reality TV show, Wayne Brady: The Family Remix, has been up in the air for a while. Now, the comedian, actor, and singer has confirmed that he knows whether or not he's going to be filming a second season of the series.
What is Wayne Brady: The Family Remix about?
Wayne Brady: The Family Remix aired one season on Freeform as well as streaming on Hulu. In its one season, the show follows the life of comedian, actor, and singer Wayne Brady and his unique family life with his ex-wife, Mandie Taketa; the Wayne Brady and Mandie Taketa share together; Mandy Taketa's partner, Jason Fordham; and the son that Mandie and Jason had together.
The show started airing just after Wayne Brady came out as pansexual and let viewers into his home for an intimate look at his unique life and the family that he, his ex-wife, and her current partner share together.
According to Wayne Brady, he chose to do the show because it was something that was outside of his comfort zone and following his decision to come out, he wanted to share more of his personal life and share the reality of what his life looks like in all aspects.
Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter before the show started airing in 2024, he said, "At its heart, it’s a story about a blended family, a chosen family, people that have agreed to love each other and stay in each other’s lives and fight the good fight together."
In a 2024 episode of the show, Wayne Brady was shown having a conversation with his wife about considering pulling the plug on the show, citing his own mental health and the adjustment to having a camera crew filming his daily life.
Will there be a season 2 of Wayne Brady: The Family Remix?
Considering the fact that he was thinking about calling it quits on Wayne Brady: The Family Remix, it may not be a surprise to fans of the comedian that he recently told PEOPLE that the show would not be getting a second season.
According to Wayne Brady, there was no drama or bad blood that lead to the end of the show and that he and his unique blended family may be open to trying again some day, but it's goodbye to the camera crew for now. He told PEOPLE, "But we loved doing season 1, and who knows? Things may change and we may pop up somewhere doing something, but the bottom line is we're always a family."
He went on to share that he's not done with TV, either. He shared with the publication that he'll be going to Broadway for a surprise project in the summer of 2025 and that he and his ex-wife, Mandie Taketa, are working on a sitcom together. "[Mandie and I], we have a production company. We have a couple shows that are being developed right now," he shared with the publication.
Season 1 of Wayne Brady: The Family Remix is streaming on Hulu.
