Despite being super public together through the early days of their friendship, Kyle Richards made the decision while filming season 14 of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills to stay hush-hush on country singer Morgan Wade.
According to Kyle Richards, the country star didn't sign up to be on RHOBH the way she did, so it was unfair to expose her to the scrutiny of Bravo fans and expect her to welcome the cameras into her life.
While this explanation sounds reasonable enough, Kyle Richards' excuse quickly falls apart when people -- both her RHOBH co-stars like Garcelle Beauvais and fans of the show -- remember that the pair had no problem including Morgan in last season of the show among other very public appearances together.
Now, even RHOBH reunion host and Bravo producer Andy Cohen has spoken up to say that he's not buying Kyle's excuses for keeping that part of her life under wraps.
"You can't have your cake and eat it too": Andy Cohen calls out Kyle Richards
According to Kyle Richards, appearing on The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills in the previous season gave Morgan Wade anxiety from all the extra eyes on her. While this excuse is in line with what she previously said about Morgan Wade having not signed up for RHOBH, Andy Cohen was feeling skeptical about this reasoning.
"With singing and performing comes speculation about your life," Andy Cohen pointed out during the RHOBH reunion and went on to question the fact that Morgan Wade had cast Kyle Richards in her steamy "Fall In Love With Me" music video, which definitely put some attention on their friendship. "You know, you put music videos out there. She's also experienced, I would think, greater publicity and greater attraction and interest as a result of this."
Referring specifically to the music video that Kyle Richards was cast in, Andy Cohen pointed out that there were already rumors that the two of them were in a relationship and being cast as lovers in the video for a romantic song definitely highlighted those rumors.
"Putting out a music video that is like the two of you as lovers, it contributed so mightily to a conversation that was already a runaway train. And that was totally in her hands, I have to say," Andy Cohen said during the reunion.
The fact that Kyle Richards made the decision to start privatizing her relationship with Morgan Wade during season 14 of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills was a point of contention with her and her co-stars throughout the season.
In specific, Garcelle Beavuais told Kyle Richards to "be a lesbian" if it's what she wants, a moment of encouragement for Kyle Richards to be open with herself and be honest with the viewers. Unfortunately, the comment rubbed Kyle Richards, who has referred to her sexuality as "evolving" since befriending Morgan Wade, the wrong way and caused a rift between them.
Garcelle Beauvais is far from the only person at the RHOBH reunion who felt like Kyle Richards was trying to have it both ways as far as being fairly public with Morgan Wade while also shutting down conversations about what's going on between them.
"It's like, at some point, you can't have your cake and eat it too," Andy Cohen said during the reunion.
Only time will tell if Kyle Richards changes her stance on bringing her friendship with Morgan Wade on camera next season.
