Kyle Richards said she was 'terrified' to have a 'hard' conversation with her children
By Lacey Womack
Kyle Richards is no stranger to the spotlight, having grown up as an actress with her famous sisters before she joined the cast of Bravo's The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, but that doesn't mean that the speculation about her personal life ever gets easier.
Following the announcement of her divorce and her growing friendship with Morgan Wade, speculation began swirling online about Kyle Richards' sexuality.
While Kyle Richards has previously stayed mostly coy about the subject and focused on labelling the country musician as a friend, she's now spoken candidly about the fact that the speculation caused her to have a "difficult" conversation with her daughters -- Farrah, 36, Alexia, 28, Sophia, 24, and Portia, 16 -- after taking a closer look at her "evolving sexuality."
She spoke to Page Six's Virtual Reali-Tea podcast about the rumors that were spreading about her and said that some of the stories being spread about her made her reconsider her own life. "This did make me wonder, you know, and question myself."
She said that her sexuality wasn't something that she had thought about previously, but speculation that she was in a relationship with Morgan Wade changed that and she started to reconsider herself and her feelings in a way that she never had before. "I really never thought like this before. This is not the way I was raised. That's not the way my mind even operated."
She told the podcast that when she started examining her own life, she wanted to be honest with her daughters and show that she'll be accepting of anything they choose to come to her with in the future.
“I like to lead by example and I thought, 'You know, if this is what I'm going through and feeling, I want them to always feel comfortable enough to share with me the hardest conversations and know that they’ll be accepted no matter what,'" Kyle Richards admitted on the podcast. She said the conversation made her feel good as a mom and was impressed by the way her four daughters were so understanding of what she was going through.
"Having that conversation, their reaction and response to me, I thought, 'Wow, I mean, I'm just so impressed by these four women in front of me.' And I thought, 'Maybe, just maybe, I did do a good job.' Because that was my most proud moment as a mom, just seeing how they all reacted."

She revealed that her daughters even make jokes about the situation, something that Kyle Richards admitted helped make season 14 of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills a little easier on her. This season, she's teased, has been one of the most difficult and lead to the first time that she walked out on filming.
"For me, to have their support -- regardless of what happens in my life -- means the world to me. They just want me to be happy," she said of her daughters' response to her "evolving sexuality" and the future of her divorce from their father, Mauricio Umansky.
Season 14 of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills premieres on Bravo on November 19 with episodes streaming the following day on Peacock.
