In 2022, Bravo made the decision to reboot The Real Housewives of New York City. Although the show had certainly lost its way over the years, fans knew it wouldn't be easy for the stars of the reboot to live up to the original cast and season 15 in particular has faced a good amount of backlash from fans.
In a recent interview with The Daily Beast, Sai De Silva has responded to the backlash and shared a message for fans who compare them to the original cast.
Sai De Silva responds to comparisons to the original RHONY cast
According to Sai De Silva, who says that she chooses to stay off social media apps like X (formerly Twitter) where some of the strongest opinions on the Real Housewives franchise tend to be posted and turned off Google alerts about herself, fans commenting on the rebooted cast can get "annoying" at times.
When asked about being compared to the OG RHONY cast, Sai told The Daily Beast, "It doesn’t hurt, but I do think it’s annoying. As people continuously say it, it gets really frustrating, because we are trying."
She went on to say that fans have criticism against the cast no matter what happens on the show and said that the show is "in limbo" because they've been struggling to find an audience for the show. In the interview, Sai says that she feels like fans are unhappy with the show when there's drama and when the cast is getting along, so the cast is struggling to establish themselves without the constant comparisons to the original Real Housewives of New York City cast.
She said, "You need to allow us to get our footing, so we can become the show you're craving, but at the same time you're beating us up. What do you want from us? If we yell and have little arguments about cheese? 'Oh that's terrible, it's too petty.' But if it's so dark you don't want to see it. 'Why are you fighting? You should be better than that, you're professional women!' But then nobody wants to see us kumbaya."
But Sai De Silva went on to say that she thinks that the rest of the season will deliver what Real Housewives fans have been craving and that the show will "pick up" and that fans will be happy with where it's going.
Why isn't Sai De Silva's husband more involved with RHONY?
While some husbands have become a big part of the Real Housewives franchise that their wives star on, there are some husbands that prefer to stay off the camera and be more lowkey. Fans of The Real Housewives of New York City will definitely know that Sai De Silva's husband falls into the second category, but Sai says it's nothing personal on his end.
Sai shared that her husband has never been a part of her social media presence before and since he's naturally a more private person, the pair don't consider him to be one of the "househusbands" of the franchise.
She told The Daily Beast, "He’s just someone who is very private. I like the fact that you see us in a family setting, but I don’t think it’s necessary for him to go to so-and-so’s birthday party."
