Now that Karen Huger has been sentenced to a year in prison with one additional year of a suspended sentence, fans are wondering whether or not this means that The Real Housewives of Potomac will pause production until after she's been released.
As Bravo fans know, it wouldn't be the first time that a Housewife has gone to jail and it also wouldn't be the first time that a Real Housewives franchise has been put on pause to wait for one of the stars to serve their sentence before filming picked back up. The Real Housewives of New Jersey paused filming in favor of airing a spin-off called Teresa Checks In while Teresa Giudice was serving her own prison sentence, so will Potomac do the same for Karen Huger?
The Real Housewives of Potomac is going to continue filming without Karen Huger
Bravo hasn't shared an official statement on their plans for how to handle the show while The Grand Dame is serving her year in prison, but a source close to production has told PEOPLE that the show will go on without her.
If what the source says is true, The Real Housewives of Potomac will resume filming at the end of March 2025, just a month into Karen Huger's one-year prison sentence. The publication went on to specify that this news doesn't mean that she's been removed from the cast permanently and that after her sentence concludes, she could return to the show, but that she won't be appearing in season 10.
According to PEOPLE, Bravo and Karen Huger's team both declined to comment on the rumors that they were going to pick up cameras to film season 10 without her, so it's possible that this rumor isn't true and that the show will be put on pause until she's released from prison. Until something official is announced, this is just a rumor so far but if the source is to be believed, this could be the first season of RHOP without Karen Huger.
The publication also stated that Gizelle Bryant doesn't feel that Karen Huger is cut out for prison and said that at a recent event, she shared that she was open to visiting her while she's away, possibly even bringing the cameras with her to film the visits for the show.
Whether production can get cameras in to the prison to film visits or not, it's obvious that Karen Huger's arrest and absence will be a topic of conversation in season 10 of The Real Housewives of Potomac if they continue filming without her.
While attending the Essence Black Women in Hollywood Awards, Karen Huger's RHOP co-star Wendy Osefo commented on the idea of carrying on to film season 10 without Karen Huger, who has been a main cast member on The Real Housewives of Potomac since the first season started airing in 2016. She said, "Looking at the reunion, I think that we maneuvered in a positive way as a collective, as a unit. I wish her the best, but I think that the Potomac brand still is strong."
