Many Bravo fans have declared the recent season 14 of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills one of the worst in the franchise’s history.
Towards the end of the season, fans have called out the reality show for becoming repetitive and for nothing happening for episodes on end. Here is just some of the reasons fans have been turning off the most recent RHOBH series.
Sutton Stracke vs. Dorit Kemsley is getting old
Sutton and Dorit’s feud have taken up huge portions of season 14 of RHOBH. Unless something changes in the upcoming reunion, their relationship looks beyond repair. When one goes low, the other goes even lower, so no one wins.
Instead of the pair working it out, they go to their respective friend groups and gossip about the situation. Although Dorit’s catty comments about Sutton’s drinking were irresponsible, Sutton’s remarks about being richer than Dorit were also distasteful.
Fans are struggling with the RHOBH plot as they can’t pick a side. A Reddit thread notes that both housewives appear in the wrong, although many note that Dorit’s comments about alcoholism were far too low.
Erika Jayne’s lack of plot
Erika has long been a controversial figure in the world of Bravo and Real Housewives. With her ex-Tom’s downfall, her privacy about her current love interests and her lack of finances, the show has struggled to know what to do with Erika.
Some fans even called for her to be fired after she was connected to numerous lawsuits, where it was hinted that she profited from her husband's embezzling millions from plane crash victims.
Bravo wants to keep her in case her lawsuit causes drama, but struggles to know what else to show about her life.
This season, Erika’s biggest plotline is redecorating her home. While this has acted as a redemption season for the pop star, her modest lifestyle and privacy make her a tedious watch. It appeared every episode featured a segment where she and her interior designer chose a wallpaper color.
Erika’s only role this season appears to be acting as a mouthpiece for Kyle and Dorit. Her support for her friends during their divorces does appear genuine, but she has been criticized for using their plots for screentime.
Aside from a mention of her career and new wallpaper, season 14 didn’t give audiences much of a glimpse into Erika’s life. There were no mention of her dating life, her relationship with her family or touch on some of her ongoing legal issues.
Garcelle Beauvais' treatment
Garcelle announced season 14 would be her last on RHOBH, and it’s not hard to see why. Her ostracization from the group was difficult to watch.
Comments on a Reddit thread note that the much of the season has been a tough watch as it often felt like the other women were bullying Garcelle. The actress has always held the others accountable for their behaviour, which has put a wall up between her and Kyle’s friend group.
As the show went on, Garcelle’s defeatist attitude was becoming more and more visible. By the final episode, the reality star looked sick of having to defend herself. Some comments on a Reddit thread about the housewife have noted that she may have been more reserved because she was worrying about coming across as an ‘angry black woman.’ Unlike her co-stars, Garcelle’s career in Hollywood as an actress and a producers is still thriving so she may want to be a little more guarded.
