If you watched Wonka or either of the previous Charlie and the Chocolate Factory film adaptations and wished you could find a golden ticket to visit Willy Wonka's candy wonderland, you're in luck. Netflix just announced The Golden Ticket, an upcoming competition series based on the Willy Wonka universe -- and they're casting contestants now.
What is The Golden Ticket?
According to Netflix's announcement for The Golden Ticket, the series is going to be similar to the original Charlie and the Chocolate Factory by Roald Dahl that started the whole Willy Wonka universe. A group of lucky contestants will be given a golden ticket that grants them access to a sweet, magical land of whimsy.
But, a golden ticket will only get them inside. In order to reach the end and win the grand prize, they'll have to be strategic and resilient in order to "withstand games, tests, and temptations" that have been designed to tempt them off the path and away from their goal of wnining the competition.
According to Netflix, the casting date and location have yet to be revealed but they did say that it will be a "retro-futuristic dreamscape," so it seems like Netflix is really leaning into the nostalgia and whimsical aesthetic of the Willy Wonka movies and original novel by Roald Dahl.
Jeff Gaspin, VP of Unscripted at Netflix said in a statement about the upcoming competition series: "We are thrilled to bring the magic of The Chocolate Factory to life like never before. This one-of-a-kind reality competition blends adventure, strategy, and social dynamics, creating an experience that is as captivating as it is unpredictable."
