Machine Gun Kelly to join The Voice as Gwen Stefani's new Playoff Advisor
By Lacey Womack
NBC's The Voice just got a fresh famous face -- rapper turned rockstar Machine Gun Kelly has joined the lineup as one of the Playoff Advisors for Gwen Stefani.
As viewers of The Voice know, the Playoffs in the series are one of the most high-stakes parts of the show because once a contestant makes it to the Playoffs, they're not longer able to use "steals" to help give them an edge in the competition and it's all about their ability to outperform their competition.
During the Playoffs stage of the competition series, the coaches pick a mentor who will join them to help coach their contestants in order to try to sing their way to a spot on The Voice's Live Shows. And now, Gwen Stefani has enlisted a rapper turned rockstar to be her Playoff Adviser to help her artists out with some unique advice.
Machine Gun Kelly, known for songs like "Emo Girl" and his headline-making relationship with actress Megan Fox, is set to join Gwen Stefani for the season 26 Playoffs as one of the Playoff Advisors.
In a clip shared with PEOPLE, mgk is seen giving Jake Tankersley advice on really being able to own the stage and connect with the audience as he's performing. He tells the musician, "When you have any moment when there is no lyrics though, because there is so many words, step away from the mic and play your guitar."
According to Gwen Stefani, Machine Gun Kelly brings a "fresh perspective" to the show and she has nothing but good things to say about how the musician has been helping her artists. She said, "He has such an identity as far as self-style and the way he puts himself out there with his artistry and creativity. He's bold."
And it's all love from the newcomer's side, too. Machine Gun Kelly says that he's been "eager" to work with Gwen Stefani and he loves that his chance came from a show that helps people achieve their dreams. On working with the artists on The Voice, he said, "Dream chasing is so cool. This is a great platform for people to come and present their talent. And if anything, if they don't walk away with the win, they still walk away with knowledge which is also a win."
The Voice airs on Mondays and Tuesdays at 8 ET and streams on Peacock the following day. Check out the preview of Machine Gun Kelly joining Gwen Stefani below.
