The filming location for Season 3 of Below Deck Down Under has some fans wondering exactly where Bravo's version of 'down under' really is.

Season 3 of Below Deck Down Under is sparking quite a bit of buzz and a fair share of confusion among its fanbase.

An insider told Bravo and Cocktails that the upcoming season is set to bring back familiar faces like Captain Jason, along with deckhands Harry and Tzarina. The series will also introduce a new chief stewardess, Lara, and a bosun named Tzoni.

“*BDDU season 3 – allegedly* returning from season 2 are Capt Jason, Harry & Tzarina. Filmed in March, in the Seychelles on a boat called Katina,” the insider shared. “New chief stew called Lara. Boson called Tzoni. Unfortunately, everyone’s fav Aesha isn’t back.”

While the crew roster has fans excited, the setting of the season—filmed in March aboard a yacht called Katina in the Seychelles—has left some scratching their heads.

This geographical choice is a significant pivot from the Australian locales typically showcased in the series. The Seychelles, a stunning group of islands off the coast of East Africa, though paradisiacal, are nowhere near Australia.

This has led to some humorous and critical fan reactions ahead of season 3 of Below Deck Down Under.

Fans point out major misstep in season 3 of BDDU

In light of the geographical choice for season 3 of BDDU, one fan pointed out the obvious that the setting doesn’t match the show.

"There is nowhere in Australia called Seychelles," the fan commented.

This sentiment was echoed by another viewer who added a bit of humor: "Hahaha! Maybe down under means south of the equator. Seychelles are off Africa. ‘A lot of people’ go post safari (spending your big bucks on a fancy safari in Kenya – end it with a beach vacay in Seychelles). I’ve been one of those people – and the Seychelles are paradise, truly stunning if you a beach/tropical person."

Despite the geographical blunder, the allure of the exotic location and the return of popular characters like Captain Jason seem to retain the loyalty of some fans.

As one devoted viewer expressed: "I don’t care where it is. As long as Capt. Jason is there, I am there."

The decision to set the series in the Seychelles might be seen as a strategic move to refresh the show with a new, visually captivating setting. However, it also challenges the show's title and the expectations set by previous seasons' focus on Australian waters.

As season 3 sails into the spotlight, it will be interesting to see how the show balances this new tropical setting with the elements that have traditionally defined its Australian identity.

Season 3 of BDDU is expected to premiere later this year on Bravo.
